About

Hi, I’m Sara, and I’m less than a month and a half away from my 30th birthday. I’m so excited to turn 30, honest, and look forward to all the changes to come. My health being pretty high on that list!

This past summer I joined Weight Watchers again for the third time, lost 14 pounds over the course of three months or so and started jogging. I thought I’d finally hit my stride and was never going to return to my heaviest weight, at the time, of 247 pounds….I’m 5′ 4 1/2″ by the way.

Then I fell off the wagon and I swear I was stuck on fast food/sugar like ants on a peach!

And I gained my weight back, quickly. And then some.

Don’t get me wrong. Weight Watchers is helpful to learn portion control and be mindful of what goes in my mouth but for me I just cannot seem to stay with the plan. Not sure why.

I reached my heaviest at 253 pounds sometime in early November I think. I’m not really sure, could have been earlier, I was avoiding the scale. I did notice my pants were digging into my gut though so that was a bad sign.

In mid-October 2011 I met with my nurse practitioner for a health screening. Along with high cholesterol and triglycerides that I already knew I had a problem with, she told me my blood pressure was high (never used to be) and I have PCOS due to my blood chemistry and the way I carry my weight. The tears ran down my face and for the next hour the NP and I had a nice, long chat.

10-25-11 I joined a gym and I haven’t looked back since.

By mid-November I was going now and then but eventually started a class three days a week, every week, for 12 weeks called TEAM Fitness. The class started the Monday after Thanksgiving. Twice a week was cardio and once a week we do strength training. With some healthier eating habits I started to lose weight. Once when I weighed in I actually said out loud, “Holy shit, this is actually working!” Well, duh.

The first week of 2012 I added Zumba on Saturdays, yoga on Sundays and a nutritional class (with small cardio session before) on Tuesday evenings. The only day I don’t show up at the gym are Thursdays and I’m there so often the general manager now knows me by name!

This is my journey to reclaim my life, my health and eventually be a good example for the children I hope to have some day with my amazing husband, Jon.
